In a serious crunch trying to get ready for a trip to Las Vegas where my mission was to shoot Brandon Bond and The Great Pit Ball, I came into a bit of trouble. It was three days from wheels up at Albany International Airport and every shipper on the planet was calling the battery from my Elinchrom Ranger
“hazmat”. Batteries that are considered hazmat, are not allowed on a plane and I missed my ground shipping window by two days. In the middle of this fiasco, the added trouble of carrying a light stand
and softbox
on the plane had surfaced. (If you are unfamiliar with the true pain in the ass that is the TSA, light stands and soft boxes could be considered “weapons”.) I felt like Paris Hilton in a trailer park.
A quick call to a fellow photographer in Las Vegas that I was not personally aquainted with, led me to Caseys Camera. “We don’t do any of that here, but you can call Bob.” The kind young female on the other end of the phone explained. “Bob?” I thought. Who the hell is Bob and why doesn’t his business have a name other than Bob?
It turns out that the mysterious Bob even answers his phone that way, half of me is wondering what I am getting myself into at this point. As it turns out, Bob is Bob Burchess of Las Vegas Pro Rentals. Bob is a unique and amazing individual that goes way beyond the call of duty to satisfy the needs of his clients. As a business man I am one who expects fair business in exchange for a fair price, and Bob delivers this and more.
As a basic business practice, Las Vegas Pro Rentals offers delivery and pickup of anything they rent. As a Man, if you have a little extra cash and Bob has the time, he will even give you a ride where you need to go, or safely store your gear when you get torn away by the client. When I was in panic mode about the shipping of the battery for my Elinchrom Ranger, the question was posed to Bob if he had one on hand. As luck would have it, he did not. Bob did, however, search all over Las Vegas for a battery
he could purchase and rent in the future as well. Who else on the planet would even consider going that far for a client that is going to be in town for one weekend?
Las Vegas Pro Rentals carries everything from chairs to a Hasselblad H3D II medium format digital with a basic 3 lens kit, Unless you absolutely have to go somewhere else, Bob will do everything in his power to make your shoot as easy and seamless as humanly possible. Just make sure you give them proper warning about when your coming, someone who is willing to go so far out of his way to help deserves a little time to prepare for your visit.
